Default The Stanley Brothers

Can yall tell me more about the Stanley Brothers? I have recently talked to Bob Dodson about the new arrivals they just got in. I asked him about what yall said about the drugging of the horses and he said how can they drug all 40 horses and show them at the same time? I didn't know what to say to that so I asked him about the tossing of the papers. He said that they never toss the papers cause he can sell them better with the papers so that would be stupid and asked me where I got my info. I didn't tell him of course, just said an acqauintance. I am interested in a couple of the horses they brought in, but I don't want to spend $2,000 on a crazy horse. What should I do? I mean are yall just bad mouthing him or telling the truth. I mean yall were bad mouthing Amy about her horses and yall were wrong so I'm just wondering if yall are telling the truth or not.

Question That Is a good point

You got a good point there Cricket. Since we are talking about dishonest sellers, what can ya'll tell me about the camp/ranch horses out in Tyler, TExas? Not sure of the name of the ranch, but they so called have camp horses that are supposedly the best riding horses around. The womans name is Valerie or something like that. I want to know if anyone knows about her.

I don't know anything about the Dodson guy other than I talked to him on the phone one time about a horse he had listed on Eldoark. Horse wasn't exactly what I needed for a customer, so I did not meet with him. He seemed nice enough but never met him.
As for the Stanley brothers, I have known of them for years. Their main business is killer horses, of which they sale some of for riding horses instead of sending to killers. As for the horses that they are bringing in from Montana, from what I understand from a friend of ours that has been there more than once to see these horses when they get them, most are real nice horses. Most are real ranch horses that have had lots of riding. He is the one that watched them chunk a batch of papers in the trash.
To deal with these people you are taking your own risk. Take it the way you want. Don't know about the Dodson guy but as for the Stanley Brothers, you have been warned, they may not burn you the first time but if you deal with them much, you will get burned. To deal with them you need to be an extremely experienced horse person or take one with you.

There are several in the Tyler area !! Can you be a little more specific and I will see if I can find out about their reputation !! We are only about 80 miles from Tyler and I go there occassionally !! What kind of horse are you looking for ?? I know one lady that sells and has a website that is honest !! Of course she lists for others and she tries to list horses that she has checked out herself !! In fact she bought my cutting bred gelding last year !! I would trust her to tell the truth about any horse she has listed !!!

I think that the problem wasn`t with what amy is doing but is more in the way she is doing it !! I have seen some of her ads and I wouldn`t buy from her !! She recently had an ad in the Tyler/ East Texas Craigslist wanting free horses in any condition, any size or any temperment !! Now I don`t have a problem with the first two but when she says "any temperment" Then I do !! Most of the people here have many years with horses and we have dealt with bad temperments !! And we know what it takes to assure that the horse is safe for riding by even experienced horsepeople !! And unless she is devoting many months to the training or retraining whatever the case may be, then she is not a person I would feel safe purchasing from !!

Default dishonest sellers

Unfortunately one female who advertises here issues a disclaimer about how a horse will act on her farm may be different from what they will act when yiu get them home. DRUGS INVOLVED?

I haven`t seen that one !! She isn`t in Arkansas is she ?? There is one there that will pick up anything and sell it as a trail horse !! Put one woman in the hospital with one of her "trail horses" !! You can give a horse a little ace and for about an hour it will be fine !! Till it wears off !! Its not unusual for a horse to be a little skittish on a new place but most all settle down and are fine in a day or two !! I have yet to see a well broke horse that cannot be taken from one place to another then ridden as normal !! If they don`t then they are not a well broke horse !!

as for the stanley boys i was out of a job and took one with them.they worked me like a dog sometimes i would be gone 4 to 5 days at a time for 200.00 a week plus meals.i have seen them take horses that were decent riders but was bronky or real nervous and right before they got to the sale barn would pull over and ace them. then they had me ride a horse in the ring for them in texas and when was asked about horse mitch anouced that it was broke to death for anyone. when we got back home i quite them as soon as we got in drive way. i have seen them carry a briefcase loaded with coggins papers and would take a killer horse and find a match and put it on them and sell them.also would take the old paint papers take new picture and glue is to papers.but brad wasnt around them then and dont know about there crooked pass.he seems to be a good guy but they will use him till there thru with him then gone,

When we worked at the Lewisville sale barn, there was a guy from Louisiana named Clint that would bring horses up to sale. He would claim that all of them were broke to death and would put his kids on them. Not all were broke to death. Coggins papers and registration papers would be close but not exact most of the time. He was getting nearly all of the horses from the Stanley Brothers.

Lets face it !!! There are a lot of sleaze bags in the horse business !! More now than years ago when horses were high !! Figure that one !! If you buy a horse from anyone that consistantly has a number of horses for sale, not all the same ones, high turnover, and advertises more broke to death horses than anyone in the country,, then you had better know what you are doing !!
