Default my horse cribs through gates... help!!

I was hoping someone could give me some suggestions, I have a 7yr gelding and he cribs though his gate even with a miricle collar on. I'm on my 3rd gate in the past 5 months. He doesn't grab the gate with his front teeth but puts his whole mouth around it and chews. Is this still concidered cribbing? any suggestions would be great. Thanks!!

Cribbing is really wind sucking. And thank God your horse is not doing that because that is much worse for your horse. Your horse must love the flavor of your wood gates. Most of the time they chew wood from my knowledge is due to salt or the salt from sweat being on or in the wood. They make a paint on liquid that you can treat your wood with to discourage your horse from chewing on it.

Red face

Thanks for the suggestion but believe it or not its a metal gate that he is chewing through. I've looked at that "no chew" spray but it claims to only be for wood and says not to use on metal. I thought of maybe trying it anyways, I just don't know what to do and it is getting very expensive.

Can you run hot wire over the gate? That might work depending how your set up is.
