Yours is probably a sooty or smokey black rather than a true black !! Most dark horses have areas of lighter coloring !! Usually in the flanks or around the muzzle or under the belly !! Finding one that has no variation is rare !! I would just go with what the papers say !! And she could be a tri color meaning having all three colors !! Yes the sun will change the color !! Lighter in summer to almost a seal brown for many paints !!

What color are the sire and dam ?? It looks like a smokey black which can have undertones of a different color and if sunbleached it will be even more prominate !! Many black horses have lighter hair in the summer but will darken up in winter !!

She is colored just like my husbands black and white. She always bleachs out in the summer from the sun and will be real black if she is up in a stall or in the winter.

Wink Sun bleached

Looks sun bleached yet you can never tell. Sometimes they change colors a few times before maturing. My sorrell/white tobiano colt is turning chestnut and he is just turning three months. Also hoping for black as his mother is Blk/wht, sire is tobiano bay/white.
