![]() Has anyone tryed this? And, if it's true, why won't any soap suffocate them? I have a major flea problem and can't afford the flea pills right now. |

The only thing that will kill them is flea shampoo. Best to worm the dogs too. Normally every spring the dogs seem to get them here. We use the powder in the carpets, shampoo them, worm them, and then I also buy a granule to spread on the lawn that kills fleas too. This year oddly enough we didn't get any fleas here. *knock on wood* I probably just jinxed myself. lol

Dawn will also help. It kills roaches too.
Watch for over doing it as you can dry out your critters and cause skin irritation and infections and really have a mess. Vacuum your house FREQUENTLY and dump the bag as soon as you are done and get rid of it. They will crawl out of the vacuum. Fleas go into a cocoon state and are nearly impossible to kill at that stage. They can hatch out when conditions are right after 7 days and up to 3 months! They lay dormant under your furniture, so move the furniture as best you can. They are sticky and you won't get all of them. But, you will reduce the flea eggs, larva, and debris. The larva feeds on the "debris" from adults....which is basically digested blood. Ask you vet about the 24 hr flea pill. They only last 24 hrs, but it will kill every flea that bites your pet during that time and tend to be "cheap". Fleas feed 3 times an hour, so...... I believe there is an equivalent that lasts a month. May get at least one of your guys on it to help with the battle. The adult fleas on your pet are only 5% of what is actually in the home. The rest are in the form of eggs, larva, and cocoons. Good luck with the battle. |

Flea controll. When we lived where fleas were a problem. We used Avon's Skin SO SOft bath oil. I use it on Horses for Fly controll. But for Dogs we bathed with Flea products first then wiped down animal once a week with SSS on a cloth.
Makes hair nice and soft plus the dog smells real nice . Does seem to keep fleas off the animal. FOr Flea control in house we used Sevens dust for gardens sprinkle on carpets in yard et. Then vac up . Yard sprays and yard control will help break the cycle of the fleas and reduce fleas where they live. I am so glad I live where fleas do not.. |

there's this neat product called "Comfortis" that you give to your dog once a month. It is a pill and costs what... $14 for the pill? (Buy the next size up and give half to your dog...saves money!
)It will kill the fleas that are on the dog in 4 hours, and will prevent fleas for 30 days. AWESOME product. I LOVE it!!! Other than that...Dawn dishwashing soap works great but won't kill any that decide to hop on after the soap is out of the fur... (as soon as you rinse...)

I use permethrin on everything here !! Horses (fly control), dogs, (fleas and ticks) and if I run out of mosquito spray I have used it on myself !! It is inexpensive ($14.00) for large bottle that you mix yourself !! Don`t get any of the premixed stuff for horses or dogs !! Only premixed that I have used is Frontline spray but I have just as good results with permethrin and don`t have to buy a bottle for each type animal !! Permethrin is the active ingredient in dog flea shampoo !! I would start with dipping the dogs or cats !! And spraying inside the house and outside if possible !! You can even add it to a regular shampoo for dogs to make your own flea shampoo !!

Yes it works, dont know why but it does. The key is to make sure you leave it on long enough,I would also buy some of those flea foggers for the horse if you have carpet. We sprinkled 7dust all over the barn floors and around the yard and that killed any of them there and even ran the spiders and anything else with more than 2 legs away! YUCK........I dont do bugs!

Use 20 Mule Team borax in your carpet. It gets rid of fleas, spiders etc quick. Rub it into the carpet areas.

Hey Cinch, I have been using Dawn for years recommended by my vets for fleas it is safe for puppies of all ages, and also Prego females. Which is a blessing, although be aware that if a dog is infested with fleas, the odds are it might have swallowed one so make sure you treat with a deworming product for worms/especially tape worms... So anyhow I wasn't aware of the Ivory, yet I know that the ole blue Dawn with knockem. laa
