Good idea calling the shelters. That's what I did and was referred to a low cost spay & neuter clinic. It was an hour and a half away but it was worth it because it only cost me $46.00. I got a rabies shot & pain pills for her included. They did an excellent job.

There is a shot the vet can give and I think it has to be within 3 to 5 days !! I have had to do it a few times till all mine were spayed !! Cost about 20 bucks here !! Call your vet and ask !! Also most areas have low cost spay and neuter programs also ask about that for your area !! Most vets have all the details !! Cost is about half or less !!
