Default Okay .. I need help D;

- clears throat -

I have a 2 year old American Bulldog, Bella, you may remember her from the post "You're kidding ... right?"

Well, dang girl came into heat - for the second time. GA! I was tempted to throw a diaper on her butt and be done with it. I went out to get jugs for the horses' trough and I was gone for all of ten seconds. I hear bumping around in the house, so I thought they were fighting again. I come in and this is their position [ BLOO<--- --->BELLA ]

I was freaking at out this point. I rang up mom and asked her to come over. She did and I held Bella's collar while mom propped Bloo up and I got a bag of ice. We held a bag of ice on the poor guy's ... balls - for lack of better words.

He finall unswelled and dismounted and came out.

I don't know if she's preggers or not because she's on her 20th day of her cycle. Mom's having a cow because - if she is preggo - the puppies will be "ugly" - I'll attach pictures of the two dogs. I don't know - I mean ... it'll be interesting - that's for sure. I jokingly asked mom about the doggy morning after pill. - gigglesnort - Thank gosh she's two years old. She was born September of `07 and Bloo's .. 4/5. Any advice would be much appreciate. I'm sure we're not outside visiting the vet's.

Why don't you get one or both fixed? There is a shot you can give but you have to give it to her within 24 hours, but then it makes them stay In longer. It has been 10 years since I did the shot---may be alots better now.
Good luck.

I feel for you JL, I have a mini long haired dachshund who is expecting any day now and we have no idea who the father is. Possibility's are border collie, 30-40# terrier mix, rat terrier, or min pin. She will probably have to have a c-section. She only weighs 9 pounds and there are four pups in there that are lined up like soldiers that reach from under her ribs all the way to her pelvis. That makes them half as long as her already. I know that any time I let her out she was accounted for so that leaves hubby or daughter who did not watch her. We have wireless fencing so she did not leave our yard. The main problem with this type of fence is other dogs can still come in. The border collie has been the father of many litters in the neighborhood including our English mastiff two years ago. He dug under her chain link kennel in one night. The owner won't keep him home or fix him and pellet guns only send him home for a minute. So we spayed our mastiff because she is a mostly outside dog, it cost a lot here to spay a 150# dog, and if the dachshund has a c_section we'll spay here at the same time. Since the pups are so long we hope the dachshund across the street turns out to be the father but we have never seen him here. And since no one has any idea how she got bred.....who knows. I'll let you know what we get when we get it.

The vets will do a spay abort. I didn't like that idea, but its better than having a bunch of unwanted puppies to find a home for. I had to do it with my cats. That is the extent of what I know though. Good luck.

I used to breed mini pins. I stopped but a female from my last litter came in heat (her first). I kept her and the male apart but when I thought she was out of heat, he mounted her. Disaster, the male was her father. The vet had told me before the shots weren't good for the dog. She was such a pretty dog I hated to spay her but I had to remind myself I was not breeding anymore (how many dogs can you sleep with?). So I sucked it up and had her spayed while she was pregnant. The vet said they do it all the time. I'm very releived that I never have to go through a heat cycle aqain. I'd get her spayed unless you are sure you can deal with the whole puppy ordeal.

My girlfriend has the best method of keeping her dogs apart.
She keeps the female in the horse trailer and only takes her out on a leash.
Since her's are house dogs, she doesn't like doing it but it's the only fool proof way of keeping them apart or from another dog getting to her.
They are house dogs but have a doggie door to go in and out.

same thing happened to our cat, but we didn't know she was preggy. We went and had her spayed and they didn't tell us she was pregnant and took the babies out and charged us for it. If they would have told us she was pregnant we would have told them no wait until after she had the kitten to have her fixed. I cried for about a week knowing that I killed my last and only link to my cat if she died. And only 2 weeks after she was fixed...she got hit by a car...darn vets...

I'm not keen on the whole spay abort thing - I'd rather NOT kill. Not the mention the surgery's about $200 - from what I heard - and ATM we don't have the money for that.

Our dogs are inside too, and if I had a horse trailer - I'd throw her in it, but we don't. I'll have to wait and see what happens. I'm contacting local shelters ATM.

Well good news....Ginger was bred to the min pin we think.. she had two black and tan pups- 1 boy and 1 girl, and two red little girls. She had to have help delivering from me but no c-section. She will be spayed mid Oct. before she comes in heat again in Nov. Mom and pups are doing great.

Congratulations! Got to love those mini pins! They will be good house dogs and shouldn't be too hard to find a home. They are the best guard dogs; they can hear a deer fart in the woods. They are also very loyal. My first mini pin Chelsea Ann lost her life defending us from a bear that had come down out of the mountains after an ice storm. I looked for her and couldn't find her. Late that after noon I found her in the yard, barely alive. It had taken her all day to crawl home. We had to end her suffering after I said goodbye. It's been a few years and I can just now talk about it. They are great dogs. Your puppies will be so cute. They do hate to get their feet wet when it rains or snows (the only negative thing I can say).
