(July 16) - A Missouri woman has warmed up to a co-worker's pooch and is thankful for his licks that potentially saved her life.
Nurse Mary Phillips was not a favorite of the dog, Jacque Pierre, who was a frequent visitor to the hospice where she worked, according to a St. Louis Post-Dispatch report.
The Maltese poodle typically gravitated towards other employees, who gave him treats. But that changed the day Phillips suffered a potentially life-threatening cerebral injury.
Although a splitting headache brought Phillips to the floor of her office, she refused to heed calls from fellow nurses, including Jacque's owner Pat Harlan, to go to the emergency room.
She changed her mind however after Jacque Pierre entered the room and began licking her right temple.
"I have watched the animals of the people I care for, and they can tell me more about the patient than my own analysis," Phillips said. "So yes, I did listen to the dog."
