Default Beagle dog

So a few weeks ago my neighbors prize beagle follows him over to our house while he's working for us. He decided he liked our house a lot better than across the road and wouldnt go home. Well I ride horses every day for my summer job and i'm out there loping circles enjoying the nice day and here comes this beagle dog joe and runs along beside me howling like there's no tomorrow. He is having a blast but after the third horse and him chasing me howling I'd had it. Yelling didnt work, chasin him on the horse only made it more fun for him so I lose my temper, jump off the horse and pick up the closest stick and chuck it at him as hard as i can (he's like 30 ft away) while telling him to get his butt home. Of course I miss and this makes me madder, but you know what happens? Instead of tucking tail and running, he picks up the stick tail wagging and fetches it dropping it at my feet. I couldnt help but laugh and he quit chasing me after that. Seems he knew what i needed even though he's what got me mad in the first place. He never did stay home and I ended up giving him away.

Default more about myself

From southwest missouri have 8 horses all quarter except one and he's an appy/quarter cross. I'm 19 yrs old and will attend my freshman year of college at Missouri state university in the fall. I plan on being on the rodeo team there and will breakaway rope, head or heel one, and run barrels. This summer I am riding outside horses for a guy doing tuneups and breaking them. He has somewhere around 65 head of horses so it keeps me busy. If you go look at the ads I have posted all but Tex and Jet are my boss's. My fiance is a Marine and he's in southern Helmand Province in Afghanistan right now. He's in 1/5 Weapons company if you watch the news much they are on there a lot... unfortunately because if they are showing something it means that he's doing something dangerous... Anyways, let me know if you want to know anything else.

You've got to love a Beagle hound but understand them too. Your story is so funny! Don't be suprised if he comes back. It probably depends on how far away he is and how attached he got to you. This is a true story. When my cousin Mike was a teenager he sold a Beagle to someone in a nearby town, 20+ miles away. The dog was grown and sold for hunting.
A few days later he was back at my cousins. My cousin called the new owner and took him back. Afew days later the new owner called "Have you seen my dog? Sure enough the dog showed up at my cousin's house and he took him back to the new owner. Yes, for the third time the Beagle traveled the 20 miles home. My cousin gave up on selling him and gave the guy his money back.
They are totally nose driven, driven to hunt. No matter how many times you punish them they will not stay out of the trash. I don't think they make good city dog because of their need to travel to hunt. I hate to see them tied up aolol the time. I have one now that is 13 years old. She may be slow due to arthritis but she still hunts 3 times a day--nap. hunt, nap' hunt, nap, hunt. And I know their barking & howling can be annoying. You were just more entertaining than the rabbits! Good luck with school, I know it's a very busy and exciting time.

That was great!

Thank you and your fiance for the sacrifices that you are both making to protect my families freedom and liberty!

thank ya garrett- and to moodygirl, I do definetly understand the beagles, I have 4 of them and one just had a puppy (yes only one weird i know...). I use them to hunt and they are good pets as well. I think the way a beagle sounds going after a rabbit is music-this paticular beagle had a totally different noise though. More similar to a dog being ran over slowly and then the volume jacked up. Mine do listen quite well actually and learn pretty quick. I'll have to agree about the nose deal... they always find their way home. I was out hunting in our leased land about 4 miles down the road from the house and it got late on me and I couldnt get one of my dogs, Rommel to come back so I left him and went home after 2 hours of trying to track him down. I was pretty devestated because he is my favorite dog and I was sure he'd be awful confused when my truck wasnt in the field when he got done hunting. When I got home and unloaded the rest of the dogs and went back to look for him for another hour and had no luck I was for sure he was lost. I was so upset as I went to push the beagle at my door aside when i got home that it took me a few seconds to realize it was Rommel and he had beat me home. I have no idea how long he'd been there or if he was already home when i went back the second time or what but i was happy. I have lots of beagle stories...they are so good that they will trail me across the field if they lose me while hunting or if i drive across a field to relocate hunting they trail my truck. Joe, the neighbors beagle is friends with whoever he meets and he gets along great with the family I found for him. He gets tons of attention and has a lot better life. I do agree with you though, if you've never had beagles you will be frustrated fast because they just don't listen. But I took time with my first two and they trust me now and listen to me and then the other two i raised so they know i mean business when i say no and to mind their manners. Thank you guys for your comments!
Ali

Default Great Story

I love beagles also. I have three and they love to go out in the back fields and chase rabbits. The first time our Bodie, the youngest, got out there and picked up the scent of a rabbit, my daughter thought something was killing him. She came flying out of the barn in a panic. I was laughing so hard at her. Just said "He's fine, just picked up a scent." He definitely has a very loud distinct howl and you would think someone or thing was killing him. Still LOL. They are the greatest dogs. My neighbors have one, unfortunately, 90% of his life is in a pen. I just do not understand that and he is the sweetest thing.
