Most people know about HERDA, but how many tests for it?

Most of mine do not go back into PB. My nephews horse does. SHe is 8 or 9 now. I told him that he needed to get her tested.

Click on the link I posted and it will tel you all about it.

Even if a horse is not afflicted, they can still be carriers.
Only way to know is test. If you dont test, and you breed two carriers, you can get a afflicted foal.

Edited to add: I mean no disrespect, but any horse owner who knows about HERDA and has a decendant of Poco Bueno, should be responsible enough to test, if they are breeding.
The one that suffers if afficted is the foal, and is very painful.

I have one who is double Poco, she has not been tested yet, but when I think about breeding, she will be. I would not chance it to breed an affected. What a horrific way to die!!

Horrific is right. No excuses for not testing as with any other equine affliction.

Yes I did test all mine, my SLL daughter was a carrier. I bred to a stud that may or may not be a carrier. They do not test any of theirs. ????????? . By the bloodlines, the foal has a good chance of not having the gene. I'll let you all know when I test her. I have found most cutters are well aware of it, few are scared, most keep breeding and hope they don't get one inflicted. (of the ones I have talked to)
