Arrow Horses that never leave the barn?

My neighbor never lets his horses out of the barn. He has a nice barn but there is no riding area. I've seen him ride once in the past year. He has a nice wooden fence around the barn but the horses are never out, never. He has 4 Standardbreds. He told me this. I've never seen them. This has went on for about 3 yrs. That's when he built this barn and brought his horses up from his dad's barn. His home & barn are surrounded by beautiful hay fields. He has plenty of land to make a turn out area.

I think its cruel and I don't know how the horses have any muscle tone. For all you horse experts out there in Horseville, please tell me what is the effect on these horses of being in the stall 24/7. I need some ammunition (mental) to keep on hand in case he starts screaming he is going to call the sheriff on me because my horses got loose and ate grass in his field for 10-15 minutes.

I'm sorry, but your horses need to stay on YOUR property.

You are right they do, however, you know absolutely nothing about these circumstances. I am a woman living alone and I'm just trying to stand my ground against a crazy bully. For 16 years I have bent over backwards to get along with him but all he ever does is yell and make threats. I'm just not going to take it anymore. He has threatened to beat up every male family member I have. When they walked toward him to take him up on it, he's backed down. That seems to be the only way to deal with him. That's not my style but I'm going to change.

I've been concerned about what might be happening with his horses. I asked a legitimate question. I don't ever start trouble but if it gives me something I can use to defend myself againsts his threats, great, I need everyting can get.

What about the ASPCA ?? Do you know if he feeds them ??? If he does indeed call the police so much the better !! Tell them about the horses and let them check to see their condition !! And the more he calls the better you look !! Just check your state laws on the charges that can be made if animals get on someone elses property !! In Texas its like $.15 per animal per day !! And lets see your were there for 15 minutes !! Best I can tell is you owe the man about $.05 !! So pitch him a nickel and tell him to piss off !!!
And you know mik that horses do not always know where the boundaries are !!! As far as muscle tone on the horses in the barn !! I wouldn`t want to make a long trail ride with one !! He would be completely give out !!!

The fine is 20 cents per day in WV. That was a relief to find out. I did think about sending him a certified check along with a copy of the law just to tick him off. I buy my hay off his dad and they are all on the same farm, so I doubt they are malnurished. I see him cleaning stalls. I just never see him take them out for any exercise. He's supposed to be this big horse man, has a nice place for them, plenty of free hay. I guess I have been trying to figure this psycho out for a long time. It just doesn't make any sense to me. Now Martha Stewart has black Friesian horses and she keeps them in the barn during the day but does have her help let them out at night. She wants to keep their coats nice and black!

Well that at least is understandable !! Many show people do that but never letting them out at all is wierd !! Standardbreds are normally used in harness racing !! Maybe he is waiting for his big chance at the track !!!! LOL

True, horses don't always stay where they're supposed to be, but it sounded to me like the horses were allowed over there alot. But it's probably because I misread the tone.

Why not take an officer with you to pay your restitution. That way, you will have an escort, they will see you making restitution and that will be the end of that transaction...and you will have a witness. As for his horses, it may be a moral issue, but as long as the horses have shelter, food and water there's really nothing other than possibly a bad attitude/ bad stall manners that could make it a cruelty thing.

Angry My opinion

I do not stall my horses unless they are sick or with an issue. Horses should have freedom as God put them here to help up in many ways. What ever happened to letting animals be free. It pisses me off just to think about how many horses are caged like criminals on a daily basis just so they can look beautifuly. Get a life folks, horses should represent freedom. Yes, I would definitely pay him for your horses grazing on his grass. About 2 cents worth to me. He needs a reality check and does not deserve what he has. Really, really ticks me off. I would love to put them in a cage and see how they like it. What has happened to us!!!!!

Unfortunately yes people can get mad about your horses on their land, but to answer your question. His horses health would surely deteriorate over time being stalled and never excercised. If he is feeding them healthy they will become very overweight. If not, obviously they would be very skinny. And another note, when he does choose to ride them every once in a great while, their chances of physical injury increases greatly. Their bones are not as sturdy, muscles are not loosened up and warm, and overall body and blood flow would become irregular. It just depends on what he feeds and how he rides them.

Thank you cowboyhorses4sale. I appreciate the additional information. People is WV are generally very nice. People will still stop and help you change a tire. Any other neighbor would talk to you and try to help solve your problem. When I first moved here I was astonished at how kind everyone was. Then I got to know my neighbor. I said "Why me Lord? I guess he's here to test my Christianity.

Here is an example of what these people are like. My oldest daughter has cerebral palsey and wore plastic leg braces. She had just started 3rd grade when we moved here. The neighbors' 13 yr old daughter tied her shoe laces together and my daughter fell head first off the school bus. She was in the same class with their son. He would step on her feet and called her a cripple. The whole family acts like this. It's a sad state of affairs because we will all probably be here until we die. Both our farms have been in our families a long time. I had no intention of calling the ASPCA. I just wanted something to threaten him with if he starts screaming and threatening me about anything. My current plan is to avoid them as much as possible.
