Default Riding with a friend

I invited a friend over to ride with me one day. She told me she knew how to ride, but not knowing how well, I put her on my Arabian gelding Mister, I knew she would not have trouble from him. So we were riding in one of my neighbors pastures. To know mister is to know he is not the typical Arabian, hot blood and spirited does not describe this horse. He is lazy at times. But he is very intelligent. He knows his cues and knows voice commands very well, even when he has not been ridden in a while. Anyway, he started lagging behind me and my mare, all of the sudden he just stopped and would not go, he was just standing there. And try as hard as she could to get that horse to go, he just wouldn't go. I looked over my shoulder to see where they were. and there they were a ways back, and she is trying to kick him to get him to go. So I hollered over my shoulder, Mister you better get your rump up here with me. all of the sudden that horse started taking off, and when he caught up to me, he stayed right beside me the rest of the time. We laughed about that the whole ride. And still to this day when we talk and get together we have a laugh about it. It was a good day.

It's funny how horses "understand" things we say. I swear mine can read my mind sometimes! I call my horse and he comes, even leaving the herd. It's great! Makes for good memories and stories!

Great Story. My daughter had a similar episode. All of horses eat in different areas and know most of the time where to go. The other night, my daughter's newest horse would not come up to the barn to get into her stall. So my daughter looked at Lacey, our QH who eats outside the pens, and said "if you do not go get her, you will not get to eat." She took off, rounded up the horse, and looked at my daughter like "Okay I did what you ask now give me my grain." The never cease to amaze me. Their miracles.

Oh what a story too. I think I learn more everyday with him, I think he teaches me more than he learns. They are smart and sometimes I have heard it that they are smarter than there riders. I had a mare like that. She would try to out think you.
