Default The Pony Cart

When I was around 4 yrs old, one of the ponies we had was a 'Stallion', I just thought he was a boy, which he was, but with a little extra. His name was Rajah. I have no idea why. He was the best, I could ride him anywhere I wanted and he always took good care of me. Even on my own by age 5, I could take him anywhere I wanted.
When I was 5 or 6 yrs old, One day my Dad showed up with a pony cart and harness! WOW! He hitched Rajah up and my older sisters went to driving him, all around the small town we lived in of Shandon, Ca. Farming community Population maybe 800.
Well, being that 5 of us kids lived at home, a 2 seater cart was not going to make the cut for us.....SO- my sister Norma-who is and was the instagator of most of our journeys, decided to ask Mom for the top to the laundry hamper, as the wicker was no longer good but the very nice embroidered, cushy lid was in great shape.
Norma bailing wired that lid as a seat, to the back of the cart so that myself and my younger bro John could ride backwards. That way at least 4 of us could go at one time.

Well, I guess-have no clue as to why---[lol] I was a bit of a 'baby'.

One day my sister Amy [love hate relationship-but we love each other no matter what] and my bro John and I went on a cart ride.

It had been raining and there were huge mud puddles everywhere. Amy and John were up front and I was on the well used 'hamper' seat. We went everywhere, splashing through mud puddles at full speed and laughing it up---What a blast!

UNTIL:

We went through this awesome puddle, it was huge! Water sprayed outside each side of the cart wheels, full speed ahead! All of us were laughing, getting soaked and lovin every minute....

Halfway through the huge puddle the Hamper seat gave way, the bailing wire had broke!

Next thing I knew I was sitting waist deep in muddy water! Not hurt.

I started to cry, turning and looking for my sister and brother to help me....but they were still whooping and laughing-not hearing my cries-and disappeared over the top of a hill...

So-seeing them disappear, I became infuriated and started screaming!

Did not work!

10 minutes later---it took them 5 minutes to notice I was missing! [so they claimed-lol]

They came back and got me.

Where was I by then? Still screaming my little 5 or 6 yr old head off sitting in the middle of the puddle! Remember-town of about 800-mainly farms-no-one had driven past me that day....

Guess I was a bit tenacious! I stayed put! Madder than Hell!

They picked me up out of the mud and made me sit on the floor of the cart for the 10 minute ride home as Amy did not want me to muddy the seat.

The thing is this....it is a fond and funny memory, I was a brat! Gotta love it!

Default Hell has no fury like a girl in the mud.

It would have made me mad too! When I was seven I was playing with a little neighbor boy at the barn. We walked by the hog waller, stepping on the stones by the edge. I swear he pushed me and I fell right in the middle of it. I came out of there screaming and chased him all over. I don't think I was ever so mad. To get away from me he ran and jumped in his dad's dump truck and locked the doors. I screamed and pounded on the doors. I don't know what I threatened to do to him but he never came over to play again. Ahhh, good times.
