Exclamation hypp horse in need of help

Hi my name is Breana Cousins and i am a 16 year old girl looking for anyone who will help me !!! My grandfather recently bought a horse from the auction that was destined for the kill pen. He is a 3 1/2 almost 4 year old sorrel gelded quarter horse who is registered. I went to see him today and he seems like he is going to be something. He is supposed to be started on barrels but idk because he needs a good bit of weight. My grandfather wanted to know if we were interested in buying this horse and i am more than willing to take care of him but unfortunately my aunt is afraid now because he MAY have hypp. I do not want to see this baby go to a kill pen and not be able to see him prove to the world that he may be able to over come this and make something of his life. If there is anyone who can help me with this sweet guy i am begging you to do anything that you can because i can promise you he is going to be one hell of a horse ! He is also around 14.3hh possibly 15hh. all i know is that he has stamped on his papers that hypp is in his blood lines but i am not sure if he has it or not but i beg any of you to help this baby boy out. He is located near indiana, pa and his price is $250.00 a small price to pay for this sweet heart's life. thank you all for reading this i truly appreciate it . If you have any ?'s my email is shygirl35@verizon.net

Hello, don't panic, all it takes is a few (8 to 10 ) mane or tail hairs pulled with roots and sent in to be tested. It only costs about $15 I think and you will get the results back in a few weeks that will tell yo if he has it or is a carrier etc...Do the test then maybe you will not have to worry about hypp. I have an impressive bloodline horse too and had him tested, it came back N/N witch is good. Let us know how it turns out. Horses are selling for less than $50 around here, registered and good lines. Good luck!

Dont panic. We have several horses that are HYPP N/H and non are syptomatic, we use and treat them just like one of the others. HYPP is not a death sentance. We also have several that are stamped on there papers that there are N/H horses in background but are negative themselves. Like the person above said pull some hair and send to UC Davis you will know in about 2 weeks if not sooner. Good Luck, dont throw him away yet. We have a N/H mare that will western pleasure, halter and run barrels she is also a great trail horse.

Like everyone said just have him tested !! Most come back N/N or N/H,,, N/N is totally negative for HYPP and N/H is he has one gene for HYPP and he is gelded so you really dont have to worry much about that since HYPP needs two genes to actually have the disorder and breeding is out !! Unless he has a heavy halter horse pedigree you are probably fine !! On rare occassions a N/H horse can show a few symptoms but it is usually controlled with diet !! I would buy him if it were me !! I had an Impressive horse that was N/N !! One other thing,,, that genetic statement is on all horses with Impressive anywhere in the pedigree !! So just because it says that,, doesn`t really mean anything other than they want you to be aware of it for breeding purposes !!

What is the horse's registered name or registration number? Someone might can look it up for you. If the sire or dam, which ever side the Impressive line (if it is only Impressive on one side) is on is N/N, then you don't have to worry because yours will be N/N.

Any horse from the Impressive line has that on the reg. papers !! Most are fine and show no symptoms at all !! Mine did too !! The AQHA only wants you to be aware of it for breeding purposes !! Most all are N/N and there are a few N/H horses but most of them are fine !! Rarely a N/H horse will show a few symptoms !! Only time you would have a problem is when a horse is H/H ! What is the registered name and I will look and see if I recognize the horses in her pedigree !!
