I did not think you could do it when they are that young ? I thought you have to wait until their seeds drop . I was also told if you have it done to early they will not fill out as well . He will be 1 yr on July 12th . I was thinking I should have it done now but every one is telling me not to . Thanks for info .

Studies have shown that testosterone retards long bone growth, their taller if you cut them young. The heavy muscle ,thick neck and other stud features will leave with the seeds. The seeds are present at birth.

4 nutted horse would be at a fair side show. A thin neck gives flex and bend what looks good may not ride so good.

I have an almost 2yr old that has only one dropped, can he still get a mare preg.? He doesn't act studly and doesn't even seem interested and the mares don't pay any attention to him. I waited because he was so little and the vet said I had to wait til they both dropped.

Yes, he can impregnate a mare !! But sometimes the testosterone level is lower till they are both down !! Would account for his lack of interest !! And again the other one may not descend at all !! I had one that only had one testicle till he was five !!
To answer the posters question,, I would do it at about a year old if it were me give or take a month or two !! I don`t like to wait till they show interest in mares to geld !! However that can happen at any age !! I have a three month old colt here that is already showing interest !! So his appt will be sooner than my other two were !!
And like Mits said do it in winter so there is no fly problem !! And he will need exercise afterward !! So he needs to know all the basics !!

Thanks for the reply Mart, I sure hate to keep him alone until he's five!! I hope he drops the other one soon or at least it gets big enough to get ahold of.
