I'm not as computer literate as I should be and have tried to figure out how to get the list on here-WAY GOOD!!!!! The dang thing about the Peta people is that they WILL visit Montana to PROTEST, but unless they bring in their extra fuel, food etc.. from another State, they will have to contribute to our economy. DUH PETA! |

H.R. 503: Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act of 2009 is being heard by the Judiciary Committee will prevent the transportation of horses to the facilities that you are trying to have built!!
SUMMARY Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act of 2009 - Amends the federal criminal code to impose a fine and/or prison term of up to three years for possessing, shipping, transporting, purchasing, selling, delivering, or receiving any horse, horse flesh, or carcass with the intent that it be used for human consumption. Reduces the prison term to one year if the offense involves less than five horses or less than 2,000 pounds of horse flesh or carcass and the offender has no prior conviction for this offense. United Horsemen's Front GovTrack.us As a horse owner and supporter of animal agriculture in the United States, I am strongly opposed to HR 503. This bill does nothing to alleviate the suffering of 100,000 unwanted horses each year, and further depresses the struggling horse industry by robbing horse owners of the option to sell their animals for fair market value. Horses are classified as livestock, and this proposed livestock transport restriction not only imperils American farmers and ranchers, it also places our country at risk of dependence on a foreign food supply, unregulated by our country's important rules for safe handling and processing. While I support humane treatment of horses and all animals, I oppose HR 503 because it will harm American horses and American families. --Supporters of this ban on horse processing are well known for misleading the public with graphic, out-of-context propaganda about the evils of horse slaughter. The truth is, since the ban on processing in 2007, the horse market has plummeted and reports of neglected, abandoned horses have skyrocketed. --Processing is an option, not a mandate. Horse owners may still choose to euthanize their equines if they can afford it, or re-home them if they can find space in overcrowded rescue facilities. A slaughter plant simply provides a safety valve for the horse industry and a respite for animals who might otherwise endure prolonged suffering. --Horses are livestock, and if you strip horse owners of the ability to sell their animal for food, this implies that cattle, sheep, pig and chicken owners should not be allowed to sell their animals for food either. Don't be fooled by the misinformation of animal-rights groups who want to shut down all animal agriculture. Please withdraw your support of HR 503. Sincerely, Ryan Moeggenberg President – East Cascades Back Country Horsemen |

HR 503 is the new number of the bill-old number was HR 6598.
All equine owners need to be aware that this Bill will do harm to the equine industry as a whole. Sales barns and their local economys will suffer from lack of participation. Equine owners will be in fear of being at a sale where a potential Slaughter house buyer is and the possible legal ramifications, therefore they will not take their equine to the sales. Then what? This Bill is yet another slippery slope, that can and will extend into the other animal industries. It is 'Big Government' and 'Big Brother,' Our rights are quickly being taken from us, not only within the equine industry. We need to speak out and pay attention to what is happening in all aspects of Government as America as we know it is imploding. Greed, lies, tax evaders, fraud, etc....Don't take my word for it-watch the news. |

Why not create horse rescue facilities? Why not protect the horse? Horse slaughter is inhumane and needs to be outlawed. Horses are companions to humanity since the beginning of time. Check you History books. It is just in the last 100 years or so that gas engines have made them obsolete. But, who knows, we may need them again considering the way of the world today. This is like slaughtering our pets and eating them. Where is decency?
Create rescue ranches for them and protected areas. Montana has plenty of state land to protect horses on. In the past 10 years species are becoming extinct at an alarming rate. Horses are also in danger. Protect our valuable American heritage. Protect and nurture our horses. On the last day, Jesus Christ will be riding a white horse -check Revelations, you will see that humanity will be judged on how it treats its animals. Rescue and protect your horses, Montana, they are your most valuable state resource, whether you have the sense to realize this or not. HB 418 is an insult to human intelligence and should be dismissed in favor of a horse protection bill. Get smart start thinking about the earth as a whole and not something where you can kill and slaughter wherever you want. Horses are like our pets and a valuable human heritage. |

Celeste1105,
You start a rescue and me and a few others that I know will send you all the horses you can care for..........Just tell me where you are located and I'll get you all of them you want....... OH wait!!........ You want to use MY money to create these rescues don't you..... If you feel the need to "SAVE" the horse then put YOUR money where your mouth is and rescue away..... QUIT SPENDING MY TAX DOLLARS TO MAKE YOURSELF "FEEL" GOOD!!

You tell them Garrett. I wish I had the time to keep up like you do. Not too long and I can retire, then I will have time. Hopefully will be over by then. Rather be spending my time training and raising my horses than dealing with this issue. Take care.

Our congressman Mike Ross held a town forum yesterday here and I attended it. It was very interesting about the budget for the US and how they are planning on reducing the debt. We are only 1.5 trillion dollars in debt at this time thanks to good ol Bush.
Anyway when it got to the questions and answers section I asked him about HR 503. He is voting NO on the issue when it comes up for vote. He told me after the meeting that the biggest problem besides the animal right groups is that there are a bunch of wives of rich horse owners that will spend $10,000 to keep a horse that is good for nothing but eating and they think that everyone should be able to do the same thing. At least I know that we have his vote when it comes up. He does not know when that will be but is supposted to let me know when it will be coming up for a vote. They will return to Washington next week, they are on spring vacation last week and this week. Over last week and this week, Mike is making 32 appearences like the one he did yesterday in our town. Your congressman should be home this week so try to get in touch with them locally this week.

Where are these 'save the horses by creating more rescues' coming from? You tell 'em Garrett! If it were that easy I think we'd all be doing it now, but the money is just not there to support all these rescues that people want to open up.
And if passing this bill means less people visiting Montana then that will mean less crowds when I visit! LOL!

I am so glad to have finally found a place where you agree with this bill.
My friend and I have been active in this from the begining. How I just stumbled across this is beyond me! Happy Tuesday! Nikki |
