The cheap price of horses and horses being given away free have only contributed to the problem. I saw it all the time when we worked at the sale barn. People that had never had a horse because they couldn't afford to buy one, suddenly found that they could afford to buy one because they could get one for under $100. These people buying these cheap horses had no idea of what it cost to feed and keep a horse. Then within 6 months (Arkansas has a 6 month coggins law to sale a horse), the horse would be back at the sale, skin and bones because they couldn't afford to feed it.
Education about horse ownership is what is needed for people that have never owed a horse before.

4J-Thanks-I will check out the mules.
I have had company for over a week and have not been online-sorry to take so long.

KR-Yes-in a perfect world the people who Gave Me their horses and mules could have afforded the cost of euthanizing their own animals-unfortunately this is not the case.

Since you cannot take them and do not seem interested in raising the funds to euthanize them, then I will be taking these equine to the feedlot. The monies paid to me will go to feed the viable horses and mules that can be adopted out, as I have stated many times. At least the poor old guys and gals have this purpose.

They will make my 3 hour trip to the feed lot-haven't lost one that way-YET, they will be well fed until they qualify to go where ever and what ever their destiny is set to take them.

And so, the cycle of life and death will continue on.
