Default Montana HB 418

Montana has a house bill that passed the house 5 to 1 and is now headed for Montana's Senate.
HB 418 for a Horse Slaughter facility that would be investor owned.
Peta and the Humane Society of the United States are now inendating our state government with letters stating they will not 'visit' or spend their 'tourist' monies in Montana if this bill passes. WHERE THEY PLANNING TO VISIT BEFORE?
Well, we [Montana] need letters from every person that would state they would visit Montana no matter what, if the trip was in their plans. If you support this bill even better and let us know!
I will follow up in a day or two with who needs to get a letter in support of this bill because you would visit Montana no matter what!
Our Governor for sure: Brian Schwietzer. [D]

How's this? Am I rambling too much?

Dear Governor Schweitzer,

I was recently made aware of a bill that is in the works there in Montana, HB 418. I was also enlightened to the fact that PETA and its affiliates have threatened to boycott your great state for tourism and such. I sincerely hope and have faith that this will have no bearings on your stand on the matter. I have always admired Montana and all that it stands for in my eyes and the eyes of many others. I have always envisioned Montana as a home for pioneers, free-thinkers, and people who talk less and do more. It is high time one of our governmental bodies takes a stand and reinstates horse slaughter on our land under our regulations and standards! As a member of the "horse community" I am watching this with much anticipation. The horse economy has been hit by many blows recently and any little bit will help. I am certain that you are aware that the PETA radicals are few and far between and the majority of people would never think to let an issue such as this interrupt our tourism plans. Infact, in my opinion, I am even more excited to come and visit again knowing that the government will not be ruled by a few radical people and truely will represent the people that it governs.
Sincerely,

Candice 17 YOU ROCK!

Here is Brians Schwietsers phone number: 406-444-3111. He is our Democratic Governor and sometimes tries hard for us, but, locally, his 'cowboy' commercials get him in deep ridicule due to if he were working on a real cattle ranch he woulda been drug to death WITH his horse, lost his hand and had choked his horse down with the same rope in the same instance, by the steer he tried to rope! That commercial was quiclky taken off the air locally. All we could do is look at the ground and shake our heads when we saw it. Of course-being the Republican I am I pointed and laughed like Hell!

Default February 26th the senate vote

Okay, so if all who agrees that you would visit Montana whether or not we have horse slaughter, and especially if you support this bill, please go to badbills.com. I believe if you put in the bill # HB 418 and the state of Montana, look for our Senate, it will get you to our state senators list for you to email or call.
I also heard if you go to AQHA and put in the bill info it will direct you to the list of senators and there is a form letter you can send.
We have until February 26th-that is this Thursday! Please act quickly and Thank You for your support!

Well, I'm working on it. You guys have A LOT of legislators!!!! In case anyone else want to do this too, if you fill out the email form and submit it and press the back button, it will save everything so all you have to do is type and select the correct name and resend it to them. Its much easier that way!

Do you really have a legislator named Frosty Boss Ribs?

I'm done with the names that start with "C" I'll get the rest of them tomorrow.

Westmar,

Looks like there was a vote yesterday on this bill at the second reading of the house and it passed 67 to 33. The information at the site (link to site at end of post) says that there will be a third reading and vote today.......Looks like it may actually pass!

This link shows how they voted so you will know who to focus on

More information

This is one of the emails I've recieved back from my emails. I thought is was great! Had to share.

"Candice,

I had to grin upon reading your email. If PETA is going to boycott this state if we pass this law…….I’m trying figure out how I could vote for the bill twice. Forgive me, but I think that is funny. I have no fondness for the PETA folks. You made my day! You are welcome in this state anytime!

Senator Greg Hinkle"

Now that this is in the senate, regardless of where you reside, let these folks know how you feel about horse slaughter. This matter of great importance will be heard by the Senate on March 12th at 3:00 p.m.

I sent the following and have attached all of the email addresses (should make it a bit easier)

Dear Senators of the great state of Montana,

I am writing as a concerned citizen of the United States and member of the Equine community. I strongly encourage you to vote for HB 418. The horse industry of Montana as well as the great state of Texas, need this bill to be put into effect.

I am sure that opponents of this legislation are bombarding you with the idea that all Equine are pets and lifelong companions, I would argue that for the vast majority of horse owners this is not the case.

Horse owners who have grown up with the animal, understand that preventing slaughter will induce cases of abandonment and abuse. It will also further legislation such as H.R 6598, that will prevent the transportation of Equine for the purpose of slaughter and further infringe upon our individual rights, regarding personal property. It is my opinion that, while well intentioned, the opponents of this bill are allowing emotion to blur reality. If this legislation is defeated the reality is, tens of thousands of American Equine will have been sentenced to a slow agonizing death. Take this quote for example:

"when state-imposed bans closed the last three U.S. horse slaughterhouses, a record 78,000 horses were exported to Canada and Mexico for slaughter, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture statistics compiled by the Humane Society of the United States"

Where did 78,000 horses come from?

Were they all pets and companions?

Who will pay for the care of these horses if they are forced to remain in the united states without the option of slaughter?

If you vote against this bill are YOU prepared to adopt a few of these horses?

Should we, the tax payer, be burdened with the cost of caring for them?

Should a person, down on their luck due to this economy, struggling to feed their family, have to watch their equine starve to death, when it could be a source of income?

I am asking each of you to consider your vote carefully, there is more at stake here than a slaughterhouse in Montana. There has to be an outlet in the United States for the humane disposal of Equine that have no other use.

If you support legislation that allows a mother to MURDER her unborn child, simply because it's not convenient, It would seem to me that you are morally obligated to cast your vote in support of HB 418.
