If he went down with the friend and was still favoring that leg,, you should have skipped that rodeo or taken another horse !! If the ligament damage was severe he may never be up to running barrels again !! You should have had the vet look at him after the first fall !! You really just compounded the damage by running him before the shoulder healed !! Hopefully you didn`t ride him while he was healing !! It could take another 6 months to a year if ever !!!

How long have you had horses?
Hard to believe he went down with you 18 times and you just kept getting back on him!Clueless is the word that comes to my mind and did any adult there; tell you not to get back on him after the 2nd. or 3rd. fall?
Pretty sad that it took 18 times for you to figure out that there may be something wrong.
Stay off of him,I had one and he got to where he had a slight limb--never rode him again. And a friend had a barrel horse and he got to where you could trail ride him--no more barrels. One horse took 8 months and the other took 14 months to get well and semi-well.

It could be anything from a damaged muscle, tendon, ligament to a cracked bone. You need to have this horse checked out by a vet. Until you do so, you will not know what the problem is or how long it will take for it to heal. Do not ride him again until you get him checked out.

I was hoping that number was a typo !! No rodeo that I have ridden at would have allowed a horse to be run if they continued to fall !! It would have been considered cruelty and they would have scratched her !! And if the rider didn`t have sense enough to stay off of it someone would have sure told her !!!

Same at our club Mart!!! The horses well-being is a narrow second to the rider!!
