A rope burn is one of the hardest things to heal !! Usually takes weeks !! Especially in that area !! No way to make it heal faster than it would normally !! That area flexes with every step the horse takes !! If it were me I wouldn`t ride her till it completely healed which may take a while !! Best thing to use on it is Carra VET !! Its an antiseptic spray wound gel that helps healing and also has a sealer !! I would never stake one with a rope if you value their legs !!

Hello everyone update on my mares leg. I have a picture of the day after she had injuired herself, It's the worst leg. Tomorrow when I go to see her, I'm going to take another picture to show her recovery but here his what her leg did look like only a day after the rope burn.

See if you can get some Silvadene oint from your vet. It is for burns and does not sting.
This is a VERY common injury. It also doesn't look too bad from you pic and should heal nicely. My second horse had a callus on her rear pasterns from rope burn scaring. Poor girl was used for calf roping. |

The area where her rope burn is tends to build scar tissue. You need to use Granulex or a simular product to break down scar tissue. Salves will only suffice to make the scar tissue build, though it will help to keep it flexible....does not matter-that makes you mainly feel better, you see her move easily for the moment---but it will still scar badly because the 'proud flesh' is not made to break down..
Get Granulex or a like product, spray it on her wound, put a non adhesive 4x4 sterile pad directly on the wound and then vet wrap it. Leave it till it looks like it needs changed, repeat the process-but clean the wound-scrub it with iodine as she will allow-stop when she has too much, rinse, apply the granulex, add the 4x4 pad and wrap again. Remove a few days later---clean the wound, scrubing away dead tissue until she says absolutly no, then spray-leave open. There will be a scar-but it will be better than what you are looking at having now. This process has worked for me for several years, hope it will work for you as well. Good Luck! |
