I'm so sorry about your horse that got in the barb wire and also the one you lost. You must be feeling pretty sad right now and my prayers go out to you. Take care and I do hope all works out.

AWWW... 4j! *Gentle Hugs*
I'm glad that the filly is going to be okay. I'm so sorry to hear about the mare. I pray that you will always cherish your memories of her and that one day, you find a nice one that is bred similarly. May God Be With You *Gentle Hugs* Rev aka "Coffee" |

The filly is doing pretty good. She has bad moments but she is such a sweet heart. One of the puncture wounds got a nick in her chest cavity so she has air bubbles under her skin. Sometimes she breaths real hard and I have to massage the areas to get the air away from her neck but she loves it and you can tell that it helps her breath better.
The palomino mares colt "Flash" is doing good. He is eating all of his feed and hay twice aday and nickers for you when he hears you come in the barn. You can walk to the front of his stall and he comes and sticks his nose to the bar. He has to stretch to get it up there but he wants kisses everytime you come by. He loves for you to come in and scratch his butt and back. We went to the sale barn Saturday and got a really small halter for him but haven't gotten around to putting it on because you can go in and just start scratching his butt and work your way up to his head. I am going to just look around and see if I can find me another quarter mare that is all foundation or all cowhorse bred that is at a very cheap price or hopefully another freebie. After the vet bill I will have I doubt I will be able to buy one anytime soon. The one I just lost was Sanita Last and Gay Bar King and I was going to cross her this time with the new palomino stud that is Docs Quitoe, Docs Hickory, Mr. Gunsmoke and Cutter Bill. It would have been or should have been a cowy colt.

Wow those cuts look like something Dr Jolley should be working on. He has some wonderful wound system.
My daughter has a mare she is considering selling. Can't remember her breeding though and papers are in truck and daughter has truck. |

I have heard of Dr. Jolley. Where is he located?
Filly has taken a turn for the worse. Instead of closing up, evidently the hole into her chest cavity has gotten bigger. She is wheezing when she breaths. Talked to vet this afternoon and short of surgery to try to find the hole there is not a whole lot that we can do. I can't afford the surgery and it might or might not be possible to find the hole in her chest cavity. Our vet doesn't have the facalities to really do that kind of surgery and I sure can't afford to take her anywhere else. He had me put a large pad over the hole and wrap around her body to hold it in place. Have to get some different supplies tomorrow. All I had tonight to do it with was a large swiffer pad that goes on a mop (looks like extra large gauge pad) and all I had to try to secure it was vet wrap. I hope it holds, she is wrapped in purple vet wrap. The hole is behind her front leg right where the girth would go. Took a wrap around her front leg to hold it in place then went over her withers and around, then around her leg and up over her neck. Looks very weird but will hopefully hold. The vet is hopeing by sealing off the hole (you can here the air going in and out of hole when she breaths) that the hole into the chest cavity will seal its self off. He says that most of the time that they will. Now I have to worry about infection in the wound since I can't flush the hole until the other seals off. Kind of one of those damn if you do, damn if you don't situations.

I'm so sorry 4J. Nothing can be worse than losing a horse you love so much. I do hope things get better. Take care and let me know on private if you need any additional support. I'm a great listener. My sympathy and heart goes out to you. She is in greener pastures now.

Good ending to bad 3rd weekend. I have the mare back and the new full brother to the filly I just lost. Here is the story.
Several years ago my husband traded one of his geldings for me a mare with bloodlines that I wanted to breed to our stud. On her papers are Bugs Alive in 75, Dash for Cash, and Easy Jet Too. We sent her papers in and in the mean time she came in heat and we bred her to Skipper. Well her paperwork was messed up and when APHA sent a letter that the sale date had been altered and we would have to go back through the original owner who lived in Oklahoma to get it straightened out, he got pissed off and sold her to a friend of ours as a grade mare. Well the guy that bought her has (alot) of money and told me that if I could get her papers straightened out he would pay all of the costs to get it done. So I got them straightened out for around $100. He paid $800 for her already bred. Our stud fee is $500. After the colts were born, he told us that he would let me have the filly for breeding his 2 mares back to our stud. So that worked for us, the only cost I would have in her would be taking care of his 2 mares and colts while they were at the ranch to be bred. A couple of weeks later, after he had to have the vet out to stitch up a cut on the Hot Scotch filly, he decided that with his work schedule that he really didn't need anymore colts to take care of and that he would sale the Hot Scotch mare and filly or trade them for a super gentle bombproof gelding. So we go get the mare and filly to sale them and find him a gelding. We had an old gelding that we thought we had sold. We were holding him for someone for 2 weeks, well after 3 weeks we called them and left a bunch of messages that we needed the money for the gelding or we had someone else that wanted him. They didn't call back so we called the guy and told him we had him a gelding and were going to bring it to him today. He asked me how Tipper was doing and I told him that I had lost her Friday. Told him the story of her going through the fence, then losing my mare and then losing her 7 days after losing the mare. So he tells me that he has a deal for me. He says, I know you don't have the money right now but when you bring the gelding, take the mare and colt with you and when you can just pay me $500 for them. I don't remember what I paid for the mare and it doesn't matter, you can have them both for the stud fee amount back. (Needless to say I nearly cried when he told me that). So we deliver the gelding and loaded up the mare and colt. We visited with him for about an hour and he told us that for right now the way that he was working all he needed was the old gelding that could take care of himself for the most part. (He has a 5 acre field of knee high grass all to himself). He even sold his cows and calves. He said that he felt guilty about not being able to check on them everyday like he should and that at least with the gelding if he couldn't make it by everyday to feed him that he would be ok because it wasn't like having a bunch of mares and babies that needed extra attention. So I have my mare and Tippers full brother back at the ranch. I told my husband if he ever tried to sale her again there would be a divorce.
