4J, we have owned the "yellow horse" for 5 months and he has gained around 300 lbs. Garrett has him broke to ride and is working on his handle, he is a joy to be around!

"sue" the boonsmal colt we got about 3 months ago and he has gained around 100 lbs. "sue" is going to be a great horse I think, so smart and willing to do anything you ask. Garrett even takes the two of them for a swim in the pond with him!

How old should we let "sue" get before we geld him? some say now and others suggest letting him go as long as we can.

Yes those are the "yearling warts"... They will go away. No worries. :) Nice looking colts.

Don`t geld him till fall unless he gets a bit ornery !! You want good cold weather so no flies and less chance for infection !! Both are nice looking horses !! I commend your son !!

Mart!! I thought you lived in Texas!! When you refer to "Cold weather" I hope we are talking about the low 60's!! LOL

Today in Magnolia Tx it is like 101 and 108 with the heat index.........UGH!!!

Thanks for the input!

Most of the time we geld our colts in the winter when they are coming 2 year olds. We usually geld in January to April when the weather is the coldest. Heat here this week was around 100 all week in the shade with heat index running up around 105 to 108.
We have had RAIN off and on all day today. YAHOOOOOOOOO.
The weather has been nice with temp running in high 70's, low 80s. Cold front for this time of year.
Glad both horses are doing well for him. Tell him to keep up the good work and that we are proud of him.
Sue will probably make him that cutting horse that he has been wanting.

Smile Wait

Yes, definitely wait until cooler weather when most bugs go. You certainly do not want anything getting into the incision. I gelded one at 5 months while he was still with his mom. I have another to geld this fall if he doesn't sell by then. He's a gorgeous TWH tobiano, 3X registered and unfortunately market sucks. Laid back guy and now he's feeling his oats. Keep him with pg mares and he definitely gets his manners lessons daily from them. He's a lover.

Talking Try it.

It's the heat and you need to try the Vagisil cream. I'm telling you it really works. Don't knock it until you have tried it. Also, athlete's foot medication may work as it has that great knock it out stuff in it. Try the feminine stuff first though. Sure worked for me......
