Default Snakes !!

Just thought I would remind everyone that snakes are crawling around pretty vigorously now looking for a place to hibernate for the winter !! Seems as if Duchess my bay mare with a rope fetish, made the acquaintance of one of our local copperheads !! Lower lip is swelled and she is not a happy camper !! If you are out and about be sure to watch where you walk or ride !! The snakes are most aggressive at this time of year and early spring when they first come out of hibernation !!

Since they are cold blooded they will get on the roads to sun and heat up their body !! Just take care when walking or riding !! Make sure you look down before getting off your horse if you ride in the country !! Horses don`t even notice snakes most of the time unless they are large ones !!

We have seen several on the roads but I think it is more trying to find high ground right now around here. Even the deer are more out along the roadways right now because the woods are all full of water.

Wink Timber rattler

There was one in my backyard by house and doghouse just a week ago and had to move him. Would never kill one, they are too beneficial and they keep my place clean from rats and mice. I just put him away from dogs and horses. MVC-002S.JPG

Looks like a spreading adder !!! Did he have a hood like a cobra when you messed with him ?? I had one one that lived all one summer in a hole in the driveway years ago !! I used to take a stick and move him around a bit just to watch them roll onto their back and play dead !! That one doesn`t look like the Timber Rattlers here !! Sorry just saw the heading on your post telling the kind of snake !! Couldn`t see the tail in pics !! Ours here have much broader bands of the dark color !! Had to relocate a young one once and he was almost black !! He was not a happy camper when I put him in a coffee can !! Had just started to get a button !!
