Default Help!!! Horse might have EPM

I noticed about three days ago that my horse seemed to of slowed down some seeming kinda dumppy. Then she kinda looked like she was favoring one leg. Then she was not favoring it. Then she seemed a little unsteady on her feet not really swaying or anything just when she turned sharp she did not have the best balance. Called the vet out and he looked her over and had me walk her while he pulled her tail to the side on both sides. Which she did walk kinda sidways then. He tested her for EPM at this time. The test results should be here friday he said. I have never ever heard of this before. He said we really don't have it in our area but, it is something she could of gotten before I got her. I have had her for two years and she has been healthy and no signs of anything. So I have read everthing I can find on EPM and it is all about the same. But I can't seem to find much about after treatment. So I guess my question is to anyone that knows or has had a horse with EPM how the horse was after the treatment and how far is to far gone for them to come back from it. Any advice would be greatly appriciated. Thank you

We have a horse at the ranch that had EPM before we went to work there. He had a severe case of it. They took him to Texas A&M and he is fine. Shows no symptoms that he ever had it.

Horses can be treated successfully for EPM with antibiotic therapy and possibly steroids for the inflammation with no long term after effect !! But there are other things that can have similar symptoms !! I have heard that the blood test they run to diagnose epm is not an indicator of the disease itself but only that the horse has the protozoa that causes it !! Which many horses do and are perfectly fine !! I would wait till the test comes back before you worry too much !! And just remember that it is a treatable condition if caught early !!

Thank you for your replys. I know it is treatable I am just worried I did not catch it early enough if she has it. You know were there little signs that I never saw. Or something she did that was not her but she never did it agian. And I just kinda wondered what is she doing and then didn't think twice about it. I am just worried if it comes back that she does have it I feel like I failed her for not seeing it sooner.
