he is my vet project and for me to train and sell once he has recovered from his injury. I will not post the 1st pics of his injurys due to they are very graphic. the pic i will post is after 2 weeks of healing. |

He is a good looking little horse, the wound thus far looks great!! It is a little proud but I think it wil heal nicely. I had a mare that had torn her front leg open on GOD KNOWS WHAT and after trying to graft it and staple it so on and so forth, we opted to topically treat it and it ended up granulating for a while looking exactly like what you have going on with your horse. it ended up healing just fine with a bit of help.

Not that bad of an injury. I have had them with alot worse. Our vet recommends and we use. Underwood spray and regular old baking powder.
Underwood is a brown spray. Spray well and coat with baking powder (the kind that you buy at the grocery store, make sure it is baking Powder not baking soda) We had a broodmare that nearly cut her foot off and she healed up well.

wish i had a good pic of when it 1st happened his muscle was puctured and hanging out.. + im 15 & taking care of it by myself..+ 2 other horses. but its all good it could be a lot worse. its worse in person then in the pic tho. it went around his whole back leg and was about 5-6 inches wide and about 1.5-2 inches deep. like i sed it went to his muscle. if you ask me YUCK but like i said it could have been A LOT worse. =/

You deserve an A+ for working with this injured horse. He should load okay if you just work his feet a little bit and not let him rest unless he is next to the trailer and then gradually work him in and let him rest. I was working with my 5 year old QH yesterday for quite some and then started working with getting her in the trailer. She has not been in one since 2006 and was sick at the time. I really think she relates her being hauled to the vet as a bad experience. I just worked her back & forth in front of the trailer with the door closed and then opened the door. It took alot of effort and when she started checking it out, I let her rest. When she moved away I moved her feet again. Pretty soon she figured out if she wanted to rest it would have to be in the trailer and bingo. After in and out several times, she then preferred being in. Works everytime. Best of luck and hope he doesn't give you any problems loading. I even have my 3 month old colt trailer broke. I've concluded they do not like moving their feet and will take the trailer option any day once they figure it out.
