Default Barrel/Rodeo Horse People Here

This is for those of you who have barrel or performance horses in the rodeo. Here is my barrel horse. His name is Hot Rod. He is a black/white overo paint gelding. Runs 16-17 in barrels and 22-24in poles. Will start the winter jackpots on him in November. Also here is my cremello gelding that I started training on barrels. He isn't very fast, really lazy, but when you get some spurs on him, he will run. He ran 19-20 in barrels and 30 in poles, but I don't run him anymore. He lives the good life in the pasture. Gets rode like once a year for parades and the kids to ride. His name is Casper.

He is fantastic! Mine is a cremello. Solid white with 2 blue eyes. He was my very first rescue 5 years ago. The man who had him had 13 horses on a 1 acre lot with no grass, no water, no shelter, no food in the middle of summer. As you probably know with white horses, they sunburn quite easily. You can only imagine what Casper looked like. He burnt on most of his body, about 200 lbs. underweight, but was still the perfect gentlemen. The man wouldn't give him away, so we offered to buy him. He wanted $800 for him, but we got him for $400. I wanted him so bad, we paid $400 for a horse that we didn't even know would make it. After we got he weight put back on and sunburn gone, my hubby thought he would ride him. He tried to throw him on many occassions. I got on him and he acted like a perfect angel. He has gotten used to my hubby now and he rides him in the parades and such, but he just likes women and kids better. He is my baby, and I could never part with him. He is 7 years old now and fat as a tick. He has also made a dang good heeling horse, too.

Default Both are gorgeous!

Great looking horses. I'm into TWH's for comfort rides since I'm so old and had to stop rescuing last year due to economy. I did get a $30 horse that is absolutely gorgeous now, papered and another for $130 dollars with nine WGC's on her papers. It has taken a year to get the weight back on her. Both are solid black and beautiful. I try to work with them in my spare time and find then good homes. I have been able to sell only three this year and they went to wonderful homes. I have about 16 including the foals, way too many. No more breeding either. Most of mine are lazy like your Cremello.

I rescued a black Tennessee Walking horse. His name was Soldier. A pitiful case, he was. Found him a wonderful home with a couple in Heflin, LA. I have pretty good luck with most of my rescues, except the Thoroughbreds I get. It is REALLY hard placing them. I have a gelding now that just passed his health certificate and is ready to be adopted, but it isn't looking good. I will keep trying though until I find the right home for him. They don't go anywhere until I pick out the BEST home. I have 2 other rescues that I need to bring in, but I need to place Bulldozer first. I only take them in 1 or 2 at a time so I can spend more time with each one. My little 3 year old paint gelding was just adopted this weekend. I had him since the beginning of summer. Adopted out to a nice man in Haynesville, LA. It's funny, every time someone comes out to look at a horse, they see Casper out there and wonder if he is for adoption. I always tell them, there isn't enough money in the world that can touch him.

Pics of my horses I mentioned above. Cool Whip, the buckskin, is also my all around horse, that's why he's so built. Pull trees with him and everything.

I have 4 performance mares. No geldings in my bunch, don't know how that happened.

Ivy is my bay mare that I use for Calf Roping.

Jade is my chestnut mare that I use for Cutting.

Jelly Bean is my black mare that I use for hunting. She is a gun safe hunting horse. I can deer hunt, hog hunt, rabbit hunt & squirrel hunt off of her.

Kirra is my favorite. She is a champagne mare that is safe for anyone to ride. Mainly use her for trail riding. She used to show, but is aging now and is just living the good life. She is what you would call a husband safe horse.

I do like your Blue roan there, Lady Cricket.

I love that champagne you got, Dreamer? Where did you get her? They are rare. Anyways, since we are all showing off our rodeo horses, here's mine. I have 5 geldings. I don't do mares. I have a kid safe horse that I use to use for rodeo, but too lazy, named Cargo. He is a grulla. Anyone who can get in the saddle can ride him even my 4 year old daughter. Then we have my wife's playday horse, Chester, he's a chocolate. She takes him everywhere. That's her baby. He used to be one of my cutting horse prospects, but she kind of stole him. He does better with playdays anyways. Then we have my teen daughter's polebending horse, Chief, he's a cremello. She has won many 1st places with him. Then we have my ranch sorting horse, Coco, he's a dun. I sold the rest of my cutting horses. That's gets expensive, real quick. I do cattle now and just get ranch horses. The last but not least is my other ranch horse, Crossfire, he's a grey. I use him and Coco for gathering, sorting and bringing up cattle, checking fence, all that. No more cutting shows for me. I leave that to the younger ones.
