Default Bad Goat

Hi I'm not sure if anyone can help but I have a male goat that was banded as a baby but now that he is a year old he has gotten very agressive to my family and the female goat he has been with since i got them. The breeder said he wouldn't act that way sine he was banded as a baby. They used to get a lot of attention but now he is mean and he tries to head butt me when I go in their pen. I can't even let my daughter lay with them anymore. Is their any thing I can do to change his new bad habit or is it hopeless?

I know you don't mean corn to fatten him up and a smoker to cook him...lol I'm sure you do but he is a pet and that's not really an option since i bought him for my 3 year old daughter and raised him since he was 5 weeks old but thanks anyway

everytime he buts you lay him down. hard. grabs his legs and flip him over and lay on top of him until he stops fighting you. and be consistant with it. obviously you cant but heads with him and win but you can knock him on his butt. he will learn that you are not one to mess with. i have a boer goat that i bottle fed. i thought it was cute when he was little for him to but me. now it is an issue. and when he gets bigger it will be a bigger issue. but if you are consistant he will eventually quit. but i agree with the corn and smoker comment for a quick fix. lol.

That sounds like a very good idea i have seen similar but not so drastic training done with horses. Do you think it wil teach him respect in general or only to respect me?

at first respect you but if you do it when he goes after other people and they do it to him he will start cooling his heels. and basicly its like training a horse. you wouldnt let your horse get away with biting you or kicking you. you are just showing the goat you will fight back and win.

If your goat is as smart as mine you will only be able to catch him the first few times, he will catch on to what you are gonna do and run from ya.
And then possibly try to get you from behind. My goat HATED water, I could get the hose and she will run like the dickens. I threw her in the pond once for acting uppity with me, she knows not to mess with me but she will go after others, mostly she thinks she is one of the dogs and wants the same attention they get, she will butt them out of the way for her turn LOL. Good luck, but with that kind of aggression, I'd be more inclined to fatten and cook! Around here I have neighbors that will do the dirty work so I don't have to.

We raise Barbados sheep and have 3 Rams. Any time one of them have become aggressive or even threaten us we either throw them down [above mentioned] or slap the end of the nose and yell at them NO! Once in awhile they forget and need a reminder, but for the most part they are good.
So far so good over the last 4 years.
