So I take it your getting into cows now --- thats good --- like Charlie was told last night it is all a write off on taxes so the loss doesn't matter.

This year we finally applied or horse supplies, training, hay and feed and are getting back over 1/2 of what we spent --- turned out pretty good for us. I am applying for my kennel license now and will be able to claim all of that next year --- along with the horses.

Of course everything is a write off, but no we are not getting into cows per say. She just happened and we can't have a lone cow so will get another one, a girl also so no babies. She is not for butchering, just another pet.
So your gonna be a dog breeder, might as well with all the pups you go thru.
And a rescue too. How cool! With you supplying the meats for the freezer all you need now is a big garden, and a cow for milking, you'll be self sufficient. Grow hay and corn and your all set.

I was hoping to plant my garden this year --- but not sure if I will be able to start it in time. As for a breeder --- not quit --- this is Madchens last litter so I will be 2 years without any pups. I am trying to find an Importer for one we are looking at and I will keep my best female. I will license to claim all of my feed, shots, etc. --- everyone else does I may as well also. As for a dog rescue --- I have only took in a few until Frieda had room --- she is the dog and cat rescue in our Village and takes dogs and cats to the PetsMart on weekends. If she does not have room --- there are a few people that will take in dogs in town and hold them until the space is available --- nothing wrong with helping out others.

We decided against getting a cow --- they need 24/7 pasture --- from what we have read --- so we are just going to purchase a grown cow from the guy in Jonesburg. He will take the cow to the meat market --- we pay him when we pick it out and the butcher when we pick it up.

With the horses not selling (guess it would help if I would get them listed) and the other animals --- it is cheaper that way --- don't really want to keep adding to the mouths to feed. As for cows milk --- if we want that straight from the cow --- we can purchase it in Silex --- a lady that lives there sells it.

It never hurts to be self suffient --- at least as much as possible --- all the chemicals, etc that they put in the store food these days --- on top of the fact they are talking about selling cloned beef. In the long run --- you never know what will happen --- so may as well learn while I can and always be prepared.

[color="DarkGreen"]I cannot kill an animal to eat it, and I do not trust the foods out there now, so I know I will have to eat vegis mostly, so I have quit eating meats, dairy, and feel great. I have more energy and do not fat or bloated at all. Now that the kid has moved back in I have had to buy milk and meat, I hate it but he loves to eat more than a salad and rice.
