Default Ducks

Okay --- last year my ducks did not lay eggs until around July --- I bought them as babies so they had to grow up first. This year my ducks are already grown --- so I was wondering if anyone knows when they will start laying eggs.

I have to get some large egg crates --- but I sold them for $3 a carton last year --- but only for a couple months. I hatched out a bunch and a few people bought a few cartons for hatching.

I have been looking around --- but have not yet found any. So if you know when they may start laying --- please let me know.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe ducks follow the light very closely. You may be able to trick them into laying if you set some lights on timers, but I would think its the light and weather that keeps them from laying. Not 100% sure though...

I was kind of thinking that myself --- even though the chickens have been laying all winter --- I guess the ducks will not lay until Spring. I was wondering because I did not know if the found a new nesting spot. I cannot add light --- the little brats do not come off the lake --- so adding light is out. They did have ducklings at Orschlein --- I guess theirs have plenty of light and come in at night. I am going to build my ducks a lake house this Summer --- if I get everything else done first.

Smile ducks

We live in Illinois and our ducks, geese, turkeys and Guinee (Spelling) hens will start laying eggs again usually in May, but wont start sitting until usually June or July. Hope that helps a little.
