The Killer Buyer in Silex loves the yearlings --- or should I say the almost 2 year olds. I wish I could purchase all of them that come into our auction house --- but sadly --- I can't. We have a guy in Bowling Green --- that I think --- breeds just for that reason. The Killer Buyer gets all of them for $100 or less and the guy usually brings 8 to 12 horses every other auction.

I might have to buy some hay but with $100.00 a colt it's worth it. I think I'll sell my Shell oil stocks and buy all the foal and yearlings I can.

I forgot to say, that he does buy some of them cheap at other auctions which he will not pay more than $50 for one. Your funny, he pastures them for a few months --- I have been there --- no grain, only hay (which he cuts himself) during the winter. I see how he does it --- but I couldn't --- my heart could not get into that.

Now you are right about the breeder guy --- he does not grain and deworms 2 days in a row before auction --- with a cattle wormer mixed in oats (which he just pours into a cattle trough) --- if it isn't a cattle wormer it looked it to me --- reminded me of corn meal --- plus he does his own farrier work and he does not give shots. My neighbor knows the guy and that is how I found out about him at auction. I think the cheapest some of his have gone for is $50. He does have some gorgeous Paint colts and fillys --- I just do not have the room right now. This years crop and the ones he gets from other auctions will be sold in December or at the beginning of next year --- unfortunately, I will still not have the room for a couple.

By the way --- if he does not get at least $50 for them --- they no sale.

Come to a Missouri auction --- they are going cheap. I bought a beautiful black registered Appy colt for $65 --- got Gypsy, a beautiful Paint filly for $50 --- paid $100 for the Paint colt I just sold --- in Missouri --- they can go cheap at auction. It is mainly people just wanting to get off of them. There are very few that no sale their horses here.

I'm sorry Tlrohr I'm just having fun with you I have'nt bought a horse at a auction in 20 years. If I buy colts their off the farm, some times I will buy a riding horse but I ride it first. Buying a horse at a auction is like seating in the show room of a car dealership and saying I'll take the red one as the sales person circles the block. You don't know if it has power stearing are good brakes , are if the engine is makeing noise, again sorry if you thought I was serious.

Oh, I was not thinking you were serious --- I actually laughed at your post. It is just strange how some people do nothing with the horses and others do to much --- some (like myself) feel like they don't have time to do enough --- the ones doing nothing seem to be the ones making a profit.

I deworm and have the farrier out every 8 weeks --- which cost a pretty penny --- and he does nothing except trim their feet and deworm 2 days in a row before auction --- which is also the only time he grains them. Although it is hilariuos watching the buyers catch and load these guys after auction --- it usually takes 4 or 5 to do so.

I've sold all of my horses and didn't have to take a huge loss. I'm down to one riding horse and I'll wait to sell her. She is the one I broke and trained this past year and everyone loves her. She makes a nice spare when folks visit and is worth keeping. I do still have the new mini but I'll sell him this next auction as a gift I hope. He has become real friendly and trusts people now, I hate to see him go.
So I'm down to my 2 personal horses, 2 minis, a nice riding horse and the rest(5) are boarded. I think I'm set for the winter. The barn is all buttoned up(and heated) we have plenty of hay and the arena is now warm too. Let old man winter bring it on!

They don't go for much. If the person is offering anything over 500 it probably won't be a kill buyer! Be careful though!!!
