Default Buyers on internet

I am new to selling a horse on internet or anywhere. But I would like to know what are the odds of selling a horse on the internet to someone that would purchase him for slaughter? I know it is banned in the US but they could take him to Mexico or Canada. How much do the horses for slaughter go for. I don't go to auctions. Went to one once, it was disgusting, dirty & animals were sickly. But that was known as a raunchy auction anyway. I recently decided to sell my horse, the flyers in the feed stores weren't getting any bites so I thought I'd try here. I want him to go to a good home but I also need to sell him before the winter gets bad 'cause I broke a few ribs in a fall & won't be able to care for him and my other one when I go back to work.

Try posting a pic on this forum with pedigree if reg. and tell us what training if any and how well your horse handles and what all it can do , age, height, weight, and temperment on 1-10 scale 1 being a dead head and 10 being hot head to the point it's almost like a time bomb. And let or opinions give you an average to base you price from.

My horse is already posted #181445 tell me what you think. I'd rate him a 4 or 5, he can be a little strongheaded which is why he is not for beginners. He's great on trails and I think he's got potential for anything else because he is so smart. I've only had him for alittle over a yr. No time for him, need an older made horse for my non-horsey friends already have one that only I can ride.

I work at a sale barn and I can tell you that horses are so cheap now that there is no way that anyone would buy one online for the slaughter house.

not a bad looking animal but the need to sell quick with a less than $1.00/lb. and the obo added you may get a few slaughter calls. Even in good slaughter mkt times if you want to rule them out try to keep a $2-$2.50/lb. ratio any good level headed riding horse should always be worth that to someone looking for just that.

you have a nice looking horse, around here he would bring $400-$500 If he rode nice and quite and neck reins.
you don't have to worry about any killer buyers calling you.
If he did not ride real nice and quite he would bring $250.00-$300.00

He is a nice looking horse --- I am partial to color --- and you should not have any killer buyers calling about him --- I have to agree with that. They usually do not use the internet --- except maybe to get some of the free horses. At the auctions in Missouri --- a lot of horses go for under $100 right now --- but have not seen many over $400. Usually the killer buyers do not go more than $200.

Thanks to all of you for your input. I am sure you know that EVERYTHING in Jersey costs more.

Everything may be higher in Jersey but killer prices are pretty much the same all over the country and that is dirt cheap right now. I don't think that you have anything to worry about. The expense to haul out of the country is so expensive that they are not paying much at all. The most I have seen our killer buyer pay lately is just a little over $300 but most go for $200 or less.
