WESTERN OR ENGLISH

I'm with barrel racer on this one. WESTERN. You can't run barrels in an English saddle! You can't pole bend or team rope either in a english saddle. Main thing you can do is just trail ride and jump. I don't too much care for the whole jumping 5 feet and all. lol

I've ran barrels and poles in an English saddle. It wasn't real pretty, but it wasn't really hard. I wish I still had the pix of me runnin my half Arab. But my ex trashed a lot of my pics when we broke up.

I just started riding English last fall and like it better than Western (just my personal preference). My brother rides mostly Western but we both like slipping a halter on our horses and riding bareback all over the country. :)

Try dressage. It will put your butt in the right position, cause its a lot alike. I went from showing hunters to riding saddle seat to riding dressage to WP and back lol. Going from riding dressage or straight Eq will put you in the right position for WP. Except your heel doesn't have to be as far down in WP.

oops, i meant to say i DONT sit on my butt. i fixed it now =] i would like to try dressage some, but im more into hunter and hunt seat equ. ive ridden WP a whole bunch and did some shows, but its not really my thing. i prefer a western saddle only when im barrel racing or trail riding.....although i never use the horn (except to put my reins on)...even for barrels, i need both hands to balance my horse...
