I like mares and geldings as I have one of each but I prefer geldings.

I prefer a gelding for a show horse but have shown mares and stallions too. For Western Pleasure geldings are more predictable but stallions are better than mares if I don't have a gelding to show. At least with a stallion, you can shove some Vicks sauve up his nose and he will behave but it costs alot to keep a mare out of heat to show. We are showing a gelding and a stallion right now in western pleasure. For a running horse, any of the 3 will do.
Husband has always preferred riding a stallion.

I prefer geldings, but do have all three. Shown all three, and find its a toss up between a gelding and mare in the show ring.
