Well for one thing even though cats are domesticated, you cannot really get the predatory instinct out of a cat like you usually can a dog !! Even though tame they still catch mice, birds and other small animals !! I have yet to see one that wouldn`t !! Dogs are more hunters than predators !! A tame cat will stalk and kill birds ect because its ingrained in there genetics !! Dogs are more opportunistic !! If the opportunity is there, most dogs will take it !! But they don`t usually stalk and kill !! At least most don`t !! But if a dog is in the pasture and a rabbit jumps up he will get it !!

another good thing about a dog. you can let it out to use it and house break it.a cat you have to litter box train at least all the ones i have seen.i dont want nothing that has to use it in a littler box.there more outside to kill mice at the barn.

sure not very rare have heard of it but like you say not common. also have 2 buck dears that love to watch tv but my wife puts a pullup on them when there in house. now she's having me build a 9 ft fence to keep them in and a shed were you can feed them from the outside during rutting season.

We had a great cat that would go to the door and meow to go outside. If by some circumstance she was left in the house too long and she had to go, she went in the bathroom and went in the bathtub! That was an easy clean up. She never went on the floor. I decided not to get another cat after her because I have house dogs and they ALWAYS eat poo out of the litter box. All the cats I had did use their litter box. Kitty just didn't need one and I figured I'd never get another one like her.

How cats & dogs are alike: Both are carnivors, predators, hunters, domesticated from wild species, like to hunt some of the same prey---mice, rats, rabbits, insects, ? etc.

I think you are right! I don't recall a cat either. The scripture that comes to mind is the one "even dogs get to eat the crumbs from the table."

I for one, will never have another inside dog. They are meant for outside. I have my cat that is 7 years old and have him since he was 6 weeks old. He is a STRICT litterbox kitty. WON'T go on the floor for anything. He is also not predatory. We had a mouse problem in the house and he won't lift a whisker to go get one. I had a pet rat one time and they slept together. Tiger is the one and only cat that I know of that won't stalk or kill anything. He won't even eat table food. Not ANY KIND of table food. You can go to the store and buy one of those rotesseri chickens, open it up, and set in beside him and won't touch it. Not even a lick. As for the compare and contrast, cats don't excessively bark all the time! You don't hear all that noise out of them. They much happier just sleeping soundly on your couch or in your lap BEING QUIET! I'm a vet tech so I see alot of campare and contrast about these two.
1. There are believed to have 400 million dogs worldwide and 600 million cats.
2. Cats are much more independent than dogs.
3. On the good side, Dogs are great companions, give us unconditional love, plenty of kisses, protector of family and home, & something to talk to.
4. On the bad side, dogs bark, They have to go outside to use the bathroom (this means you or someone else must be there to let them out and back in), Can be overprotective (and dangerous to others), & they need baths on a regular basis (some breeds need hair cuts, too).
5. On the good side, Cats use the litter box (no having to worry about letting them outside to do their business).
6. Cats purr when content.
7. Cats are funny with a catnip buzz on.
8. Cats cuddle with you.
9. Cats keep mice and bugs to a minimum.
10. On the bad side, cats are more tempermental than a dog.
11. Not always the best listeners.
12. The house stinks when they go "boo-boo" in the litter box.
13. Hair balls to clean up.

Hope this helps.

That's an amazing cat, Amy. Does he try to catch bugs & spiders and eat them? I do disagree about dogs not belonging inside. I think some dogs belong inside and some do not. Just like some dogs are more active than others and do not belong shut up in an apartment and small dogs like minipins were bred to be inside. They would die outside. It all just depends on what they were bred for. Also not everybody has a caring human to sleep with. A cat or dog can be a good substitute. Adult male, un-neutered dogs do mark in the house. There is a good discussion under Dog Pee in the Vent. Psycho cats and un-neutered male cats pee or spray. My friend had a beautiful purebred cat who peed on her pillow if she was gone too long. To her credit my friend never gives up on an animal. I guess this brings up another way cats & dogs are alike. Cats are inside and can be outside, like barn cats. Some dogs are for outside use and some for indoors.
