Cool Trailering

Well, I was really surprised. I was going to train another horse to load in the trailer. I put them in the round pen and they immediately went to inspect it so I opened the door and went to get my handi-stick. When I came back they were already loaded and stayed inside for about 30 minutes. Don't figure. She is four and only loaded when a yearling one time. They never seize to amaze me. Then we just unloaded her and shut it up. Will be working with a couple more tomorrow. It would be great if the all did that. Good luck on your endeavor. Again, I still strongly that food should only be used as a reward not an incentive. Keep us posted on your training.

Default Loading trouble

I agree with the round pen idea. I use the round pen or lunging idea for all my horse training. I have broke several young horses to ride and load by this method. It is a reward to stop running and being able to breath. So stop by the trailer and he will get where he will stop there by himself. Since he has fear of the trailer from abuse you will not be able to do it all in one day. But be patience and continue everyday until he is willing and wanting to be here the trailer. The person who own him first probably tied him to the trailer to beat him and you re inforced the fear with you whipping him for not going near it.
