Thanks 4j. I'm looking forward to seeing him.

Funny, I just looked at 2 ads from the same person and in the ad it states that they have papers and a 6 month coggins in hand.
Maybe my book idea isn't such a bad idea after all. People are learning already. (just kidding)

I have been looking for a horse lately and have run into the problem where the owner did not have the papers, lost with a previous owner. DNA may solve a lot of these problems, at least I hope so. The first horse was a Spanish Mustang
and the first owner, actually an official of the association, had not sent the papers. I called the registry to find out if it could be determined if this horse was a purebred & could registered. I didn't say anything about who the original owner was. I was told with a DNA test I could find out what I needed to know.
I didn't need to have those papers in my hand. I also checked on a Morgan whose papers didn't get passed on. It supposedly was registered. I called the Morgan Association and found out for a $50.00 DNA test they could tell me who this horse was and issue new papers (that I'm sure would cost more). I think all registries should be able to do this for us. Whether they can I don't know.
The DNA in the registries do not protect us from fraud. I'm sure this isn't news to a lot of you. I know a breeder who bred her mare to a top stallion.
When the foal was born, it was born a color that was genetically impossible.
This is a breed where color is very important. She went to the stallion owner to inquire if there if there was a mix up. No, she had done the semen collection and mailing herself and was sure it was the right stallion. So the stallion owner had him DNA tested. His DNA did not match the DNA on file
at the registry! Whoever registered him did it with another horses DNA. The registry agreed to correct the foals papers, but none of the other get of that
stallion. So all his get & future get are based on a lie and the genetic color genes will not be accurate and probably not his pedigree. As we used to say
in the 70's, "put that in your pipe and smoke it."

Since the DNA Testing on horses has become simple and easy to do, than I believe the whole can of worms should be opened and WHAT A MESS! The pipe is done empty....What do you think the percentage will be of Wrong DNA-No Match!

Mine are all in one book, with their coggins, and pics of each one.

I keep all my horse papers in one place. In plastic sleeves in a portfolio type bag. That way I always know where the papers are. I also keep pictures of my horses next to their registrations so that I can show them to any potential buyers or just to show them off! LOL!
